We have today received a letter from Lieutenant-in- Command Conway Hake, R.N.R., of H.M.S. 'FAME', written at Hongkong on 11th august 1919.
In this letter he informs us that he has made application to you for the post of Deputy Harbour Master at Honghong, and usks us to support his application. We have very great pleasure in acceding to his request.
Lieutenant Hake joined our service as Third Officer in
and May 1908, was promoted to Chief Officer in September 1911, to the Command of our $.5 'BARRANCA' in April 1914. During the whole of that time he proved himself to be an Officer and Captain of conspicuous ability, and his integrity and sobriety are undoubted.
and
On the outbreak of War he at once relinquished his command to take up his duties as an Officer in the R.N.R., we have no doubt that his services have been as satisfactory to the admiralty as they were to us.
We consider that his knowledge of both services should prove of considerable service in the post he seeks to fill. He is a man we feel will fill the position with credit.
We recommend Lieutenant Hake with very great confidence, and trust he will succeed in securing the post, although we shall regret the loss of his services.
We are, Sir,
Your obedient servants,
